C & M Residential does it all, and one of our favorite projects is when we get to do a complete yard makeover. In this particular project, our client came to us with her existing home and wanted a new outdoor space. The home already had a screened in porch but the backyard had little to no usable area. After a consultation with our landscape designers and a review of the condition of her current Atlanta, GA backyard, we let our creativity take the reins and create a beautiful space for her and her family to enjoy.
Before
When we first got to meet with this client her directions for us were that she wanted a patio, the yard had drainage issues that needed to be corrected, and she really did not like the maintenance of the wood and would prefer to to have stone. From here, we got to make many suggestions and recommendations that resulted in us creating an entire outdoor area for her.
After
To make this renovation a reality we started with the drainage. The concrete patio was added to aid in drainage issues as well as the stacked stone retaining walls. We added drainage systems below the new lawn area to move water to the appropriate outflow area. An irrigation system was also added to keep her landscaping lush and reduce maintenance needs. To reduce the maintenance associated with wood, we replaced her wooden steps with stacked stone. We also replaced some of the lower wood siding with permanent stone to not only reduce maintenance, but also add to the design. One major design element that the client had in mind was creating a sitting area outside of her master bedroom to enjoy the sun. We added this ‘outdoor sunroom’ and installed a new french door to her bedroom so she would have easy access. In the completed design we had three new outdoor rooms: the master suite outdoor sunroom, the lower terrace entertainment area, and the new water feature focal point next to the screened in porch stairs. We finished everything up with plants that covered up the foundation and added accent plantings for color.
