December Maintenance

Pine Straw It’s officially December! Christmas music is on the radio waves, trees are everywhere, and you’re scrambling to buy Christmas presents that you should have bought months ago. Don’t forget about taking care of your home and lawn now, before the temperatures drop below freezing and you’re too busy to get out and get it done. Here are some suggestions that will help keep your landscape in good shape and looking good for the in-laws when they drop by.

Drain your Irrigation Lines

This is one of the most important things you need to be doing right now. If you don’t take care of properly draining your irrigation lines and winterizing them, you could be dealing with hundreds of dollars in repairs come spring when you’re ready to pressurize the lines again. This is a simple process, but if you’re not sure how to do it, make sure you call C&M Residential to be sure it’s done properly.

Winterize Your Lawn Equipment

Lawn mowers, edgers, and weed eaters will not be used anytime soon, but don’t just park them and forget them. Change the oil and add a fuel stabilizer so they will crank right up after long winter storage.

Sharpen Blades

Since your equipment won’t be used for a while, go ahead and take all of the blades off for sharpening so when you’re ready to use them again, they are good to go for the season.

Mulch and Pine Straw

Now is a great time to re-mulch and pine straw all of your landscape. It will make things look better as the leaves fall off for the year, and it will protect sensitive plants from winter freezes.
