We are lucky enough that we get to spend most of our time outdoors. That means that most of us go through several bottles of sunscreen in a summer, have perpetual farmer’s tans, and that we are always drinking gallons of water. But, apart from these effects that the outdoors has us and our employees, it also of course means that our schedules and working hours are the subject of the weather. At C&M Residential we do our best to deliver our projects in a timely manner, but we are always subject to the weather, and other deciding factors.
Creating a Schedule
When we are bidding on an outdoor improvement for your home, we try to take almost every factor possible into consideration. Our calculations include a wide range of variables that try to most accurately capture the needs of your particular project and job site. This includes everything from paver size, access restrictions, square footage of the project area, any time it will take to prep the site including grading or bringing in dirt, and must more. When we are able to accurately capture all of this information, we give you our best estimate on your outdoor project – whether it is a simple landscape installation or a major renovation. Unfortunately, there are some factors that we are not able to capture within this scheduling and estimate that may cause a delay in your project.
What Can Delay a Project
The most obvious uncontrollable factor in our business is the weather. Wind, rain, lightning – when storms pop up we’ve got to put the projects on hold until the skies clear and we have drier working conditions. Beyond the weather delaying a job, we may also have to contend with the availability of supplies. Whether that means lumber, stone, or the availability of landscaping, we can only start a job once we have the supplies in hand. Probably one of the most common reasons that we see a delay in jobs is due to the customer. Once a job gets rolling and the customer changes what they want or add new parts, we will likely have to increase our labor hours to get the job completed.
All of these reasons can effectively lengthen the schedule of a job we are completing for one customer, and they may also delay the start date of a customer’s project that is scheduled immediately afterwards. At C&M Residential, we do the best we can to deliver all jobs on time and on budget. Unfortunately, there are some factors that are out of our control, but we will always do everything we can to leave the customer 100% satisfied with the outdoor renovation to their Roswell, GA home.
