Despite the fact that we are in the middle of a snow storm, spring will be here soon and it will be the time to get outside, and enjoy the outdoors and your landscape. We are sure that by now, you have a serious case of cabin fever and you’ll do anything to get out of the house. While that is a great reason to go outside and take a walk, here are 5 more that will hopefully give you some incentive to make time outside at the top of your priority list this spring.
1. Vitamin D
Catching some rays – sunshine that is – starts the process that activates vitamin D in your body. Of course, becareful not to get burnt and to protect your skin, but regular doses of sunshine and the resulting vitamin D helps fight osteoporosis, cancer, depression, and heart attacks.
2. Exercise
Getting outside means that you have to get out from in front of your screens. Computer screens. TV screens. Phone screens. If you’re not staring at a screen and you’re outside, then you are moving and getting exercise!
3. Be Happy
Increased light levels have been shown to elevate people’s mood. So, if you’re outside in the sun, you’ll inevitably be happier!
4. Concentrate
Studies have shown that kids with ADHD can concentrate better after being outside. Try it out for yourself! Take your lunch break outside and see if you have an easier time concentrating when you get back to your desk.
5. Relieve Stress
This is exactly what you’re feeling right now with cabin fever. After being cooped up inside, in a dark house for too long, the stress sinks in. When you go outside and get a breath of fresh air, you will instantly feel less stress and have a more positive outlook on the day.
