Grinding Tree Stumps
This is the cheapest and fastest way to get a tree removed from your landscape. The tree removal company will simply come in and cut the tree down as close to the ground as possible. Once they have removed all of the above ground wood, they will come back with a grinder and grind the remaining stump down so that it is just below ground level – low enough so that they can back fill the hole and plant new sod or grass seed.
The repercussions of grinding tree stumps are long lasting and extremely problematic. They include:
- Discoloring lawns.
- Mushrooms growing off of the remnants of the wood.
- Holes where one can step in and hurt themselves.
- Yellow jackets live in the decomposing remnants of tree stumps on a regular basis.
- Walkways and driveway fail in the area of the tree stump.
Grubbing Tree Stumps
The process that involves completely digging up and removing an entire tree stump is called “grubbing.” While this may require some additional time and expense upfront, it will help you avoid the future expense of having to go back and fix the issue of a stump that was originally ground and the resulting problems.
The photos above show two stumps that C&M Residential recently removed from a client’s landscape who thought they had sinkholes because of the low spots that had begun to form. Both of these stumps had been previously ground and simply covered up. After removal, we re-graded the landscape and installed fresh sod to take this landscape new a new level of beauty.
