Keeping up with Your Concrete

Concrete is one of the fastest, easiest, and cheapest ways to install a new driveway, patio, or walkway. But, once it is installed, it still requires the same amount of maintenance as other types of patio materials. Doing daily or weekly maintenance on your outdoor areas helps to preserve them for longer which gives your family more time to enjoy the luxury outdoor rooms that you have worked so hard to afford. If you follow these tips from C&M Residential, you can be sure that your new concrete installation will last for years to come.

Daily or Weekly Maintenance

Just like you clean your kitchen counters and floors everyday, you should do the same to your concrete patio. If you and your family don’t use your patio on a daily basis, then a weekly cleaning will probably do the trick. Sweeping off the leaves, dirt, and grime will help prevent staining and discoloration. Moving furniture around to different spots will also help prevent rust build up underneath metal chair or table legs.

Filling in the Cracks

It is relatively common for concrete to crack. Whether it is due to age, a neighboring tree root, or some other kind of change with the ground, a crack in concrete is common. But, they can be – and should be – fixed! Keeping the cracks repaired will help to maintain a structurally sound surface and minimize water intrusion through the cracks.

Seal the Surface

Concrete needs to be resealed at least once a year – and if it gets heavy traffic then sealing twice a year is a good idea. Concrete sealer helps to close off the porous surface of the concrete therefore repelling water, resisting staining, discoloration due to sunlight, and reducing wear and tear.
